Activities
The Punani hinterland is a migratory and feeding ground for small herds of the famous Punani elephant herd, Vakarai herd and Somawatiya herd. Wildlife and elephant movement, location, and forage often depend on current weather patterns and ground moisture, which determines grass availability, so patience is required. During the wet season and subsequent months of the Maha season (Northeast monsoon), various herd trails intersect. Their cultural innovations and the accompanying human-elephant conflicts are what we often arrange to see if discerning visitors have the commitment and passion. A unique educational adventure led by a Special Forces veteran. In line with our commitment to responsible tourism, we approach herds responsibly and from a tactical distance to ensure an enjoyable experience. You may encounter a small herd of elephants in the foraging area before your nocturnal adventure. Their habitat is home to junglefowl, fishing cats, desert cats, wild boar, deer, mouse deer, crested monkeys, leopards, and most recently the melanistic leopard (black leopard?).
